I think this is a fitting start to the sessions. I wrote this after hearing an old time fiddle player on a movie while a friend of mine was sleeping on the couch. It always struck me as having a very lullabyish feel due to the open D tuning, and I wanted to keep it unlayered and uncluttered. The cymbal crashes were included as a foreshadowing of the direction the sessions were headed. Some modal phrasing is introduced a little more than half way through, but the idea of a simple melody is brought back by the progression of the final movement.
